Greetings to all back home from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia! We arrived here yesterday and have already learned a lot about this fabulous city. Brisbane is the third largest city in Australia and gets its name from the Brisbane River which runs through the center of the city. The river was named after the Scotsman Sir Thomas Brisbane, the governor of New South Wales from 1821 to 1825. Brisbane has a unique history which is tied, in part, to the USA as Brisbane served as South West Pacific headquarters for General Douglas MacArthur during WWII. Today, Brisbane is a beautiful, multicultural city of 3 million people. It is the capital of Queensland and is the closest city to St. Ursula's College, the Ursuline school which we will be visiting this week.
