Art Class with our French guests

One of our favorite things to do with our guests is to invite them into our classes at UA. Last week, the joined an AP art class as they studied the art of American artist, Tony Orrico. Here is how the teacher, Ms. Holmes, described the class:

We looked at the art of Tony Orrico and watched a video of his drawing performance. We and discussed the idea of “Process Art” in which the act of producing is one of the most significant aspect of the work.  Tony is known for his Penwald Drawings which are a series of bilateral drawings in which he explores the use of his body as a tool of measurement to inscribe geometries through movement. The students had the opportunity to create floor drawings while experimenting with Tony’s bilateral drawing method.  Students also participated in collaborative drawing exercises as well, demonstrating that the process of creating art can be more significant than the finished product.
