All Around Dallas

This past week, our Wimbledon delegation did quite a bit of sight-seeing around "Big D." While downtown, they visited the 6th Floor Museum, the Geo Deck at Reunion Tower and enjoyed time at El Fenix and the Cattle Drive Sculpture. It's only been a few days but our guests are already "living large" in and around Dallas!

Dallas Welcomes Wimbledon !!

Our UK Ursuline sisters from Wimbledon arrived Friday night so today was our first chance to officially welcome them to our school. We enjoyed a brilliant day, as they say! Our guests had a warm welcome from some of our UA faculty members and then they enjoyed a tour of the school before attending classes with their host sisters. It was a lovely first day at school - we are delighted to have them with us in Dallas at last!

This was the scene at the airport on Friday - old and new friends - all thrilled to see each other!

And today at school .....

It already feels like home!

Today in Lima

And today, while we were saying goodbye to our visiting French delegation here at home, our UA Dallas delegation enjoyed their first full day in Lima, Peru. The delegation took a wonderful tour of the city of Lima which included the central plaza, the Cathedral, the house of the President and some gorgeous overlook areas with views of the ocean (yes, Lima is a coastal city - people often forget this important fact).  The students and teachers had lunch at the famous "Pardos" restaurant where the specialty is roasted chicken with hand-cut fried potatoes (the Incas were the first to farm potatoes so they are extremely abundant and popular in Lima.)  What a beautiful and fantastic day!

Bon Voyage dear friends!

This morning we reluctantly bid farewell to our French guests from Vannes. What a delightful group they were! Friends, it was a great pleasure to have you in Dallas and we will miss you very much! We are already looking forward to seeing you again in France in March! Safe Travels and much love until we meet again!

Hola Peru!

Late last night, our Peru delegation left DFW for Lima. Early this morning, they arrived safely in Peru and have been welcomed warmly by the community of our sister-school, Colegio Santa Ursula. This week and this delegation are particularly special for Colegio Santa Ursula because, on Friday, our sister school will celebrate its 80th birthday! This delegation was sent to represent Ursuline Dallas in the festivities and to personally deliver our congratulations and best wishes! It will be a short but fantastic experience!

Community Service at St. Vincent de Paul

Today our visiting French delegation volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, one of the agencies of Catholic Charities. The store accepts many donations of clothes, furniture and household items which it resells at a very low price or donates to those in need. The store serves many in our community including refugees. During their time at St. Vincent's, our guests cleaned and organized items such as toys and clothes. they also helped with pricing and tagging items. It was a wonderful experience in the spirit of Serviam.

Art Class with our French guests

One of our favorite things to do with our guests is to invite them into our classes at UA. Last week, the joined an AP art class as they studied the art of American artist, Tony Orrico. Here is how the teacher, Ms. Holmes, described the class:

We looked at the art of Tony Orrico and watched a video of his drawing performance. We and discussed the idea of “Process Art” in which the act of producing is one of the most significant aspect of the work.  Tony is known for his Penwald Drawings which are a series of bilateral drawings in which he explores the use of his body as a tool of measurement to inscribe geometries through movement. The students had the opportunity to create floor drawings while experimenting with Tony’s bilateral drawing method.  Students also participated in collaborative drawing exercises as well, demonstrating that the process of creating art can be more significant than the finished product.
