Global Issues Day

On January 27, we celebrated our annual Global Issues Day with a community-wide day of learning. January 27 is also the Feast of St. Angela, the foundress of the Ursulines, so the day was extra special.  Mass was a wonderful way to start the day and to focus on the work and the legacy of the Ursuline sisters world-wide.

As part of the morning activities, each advisory colored a small panel which later became part of a community mural celebrating Ursuline's relationships around the world. Here is the finished product:

We were privileged to have several special guests and speakers with us for the day. The theme of the day was "Stories of Peace and Justice" so we heard many personal and compelling stories from our guests. Here are a few of the wonderful people who came to Ursuline to be with us for the day:

Father Joseph Luzindana from Uganda was our special guest keynote speaker

Ugandan artist Natal Gloria (on right) with friends in the global Village

Keynote speaker Agnes Kasule 01, reunited with classmate Mary Holland 01
Torkin Wakefield, BeadforLife founder, spoke about ways to help lift women out of poverty
Jules McGee '08 spoke about her time in the Peace Corps
In addition to attending sessions about a variety of social justice issues, we also found a little time to shop in the annual Global market (benefiting a variety of causes around the world from girls' education to elephant conservation). The day ended on a festive note of cultural dances and student performances.  It was a fantastic day!
