South African guests around DFW

We have been having a wonderful time with our sisters from South Africa! This week, our guests have visited a great variety of cultural and educational sites around the DFW metroplex. Just for fun, our guests and their host sisters enjoyed a day at Six Flags over Texas on Saturday. It was a great way to get to know each other and to bond over roller coater screams! Once the school week began, we turned our attention to places of historical significance such as the Bush Presidential Library and the Ft. Worth Stockyards. The students also enjoyed a morning at the Dallas World Aquarium where all agreed that the sloth is a fascinating creature. Below are a few photos from these first festive days!

Welcome Brescia House Sisters!

Today our sisters from Brescia House School in Johannesburg arrived in Dallas! We were so excited for their arrival and it was especially thrilling because today was also "Fun Day" at UA. "Fun Day" is a surprise day of fun activities and treats organized by our student council. The delegation was greeted by our school President, Ms. Kane, and also by Sr. Lois. After a nice welcome lunch, the students went out to enjoy the activities and we also gave them a brief tour of the school. It was such a special day and we are so happy to have our South African sisters with us for the next 12 days - more fun awaits!

Home from Uganda

We have been home from Uganda for a few days now. Although we have returned to our daily lives in Dallas, we know that we left a piece of our hearts and Uganda with the many marvelous and loving people that we encountered. In the video (made by Emily M - just click on the link) and the photos below are just a few of those wonderful people who we hope to see again very soon - in Uganda or perhaps in Dallas. Thank you for teaching us so much about Africa and about your beautiful country and, most of all, thank you for sharing your hearts and homes with us - we love you!

Easter in Uganda!

On Easter Sunday, our delegation attended Mass at the YES center with Father Joe. It was truly a festive occasion with everyone dressed beautifully and in great spirits. The Mass was joyful, full of beautiful song and dance. After Mass, we enjoyed a delicious BBQ lunch and dance party along with our friends from the YES center and St. Peters. Several Catholic Sisters and some of our dear friends from Empower African Children also came to join us. It was a wonderful celebration!!

On Easter were also joined by our dear friends, Sr. Anne and Sr. Grechen, from St. Catherine's school in Kenya. We gave them several bags of donations from the UA Dallas community which they will take back to their students. The items included backpacks, sheets, school shoes, underwear and more. They were most appreciative and send their profound thanks to all who donated to the St. Catherine's students.
