Uganda: Bead for Life

We at Ursuline have been long-time friends and partners with BeadforLife. BeadforLife is an NGO based in Uganda which helps to lift women out of poverty by giving them business skills and the confidence to work for themselves. We had the privilege of visiting BeadforLife last week (after lunch at a very fancy KFC) and we also visited some of the women entrepreneurs who have successfully started businesses to support themselves and their families. In the photos below, you see a local woman who is supporting her 8 children with her small business of selling vegetables. When we returned from visiting the entrepreneurs in their neighborhoods, we had a lesson in bead-making as BeadforLife raises funds through the sale of  hand-made jewelry and other local products. Some of us were better than others at making the beads - all were better at it than Ms Nipp.  Of course, we also supported BeadforLife by doing a little shopping while we were there!
