Tuesday at Brescia House School

Today the students attended classes and received a brief history lesson on South Africa by Mr. West, one of the Brescia teachers who will accompany us on our historical tour on Thursday. Our entire group visited the lower school as those students engaged in a Sister Serviam Picnic. This is similar to our UA Family Picnic, with all of the students in the same house across the grade levels enjoying their lunch together. Several students, Mr. Irwin and Mr. Poellot tried out some of the playground equipment which has been designed to develop muscles and coordination – these exercises were not as easy as the Brescia students made them look! Following the picnic we joined a class of grade 3 students in a Mindfulness activity where we learned how to be fully cognizant when eating a raisin. Just wait until our students return and our teachers see them chant, “Raisin,” to bring them into a state of peace! The students presented to the entire high school during the day’s assembly time - the Brescia House students enjoyed the freshmen dance and the sharing of different American sayings and slang phrases the most. There were also audible “ah’s” from the audience when the photos of graduation where shown on the screen. We look forward to a repeat performance of the presentation tomorrow when we are visiting St. Ursula in Krugersdorp. Students returned to classes for the afternoon, and Mrs. Robertson and Mr. Poellot sat in on a Computer class during which the students were using Minecraft to design a village. Both were highly amused during the lesson – it has been a highlight of our class visits during out time here!
