Greetings to all from Uganda where our delegation has landed safely and soundly after a fantastic few hours in Dubai. Here are a few photos from last night when we took a traditional Dhow dinner cruise along Dubai Creek:
And today, we arrived, tired but excited, at Entebbe airport where we were met by Agnes, our guide and fellow UA alum and by "Uncle Zziwa", our dear friend of many years. Father Joe would have met us but, he was already with us! That's right - he was actually on the flight from Dubai with us, just arriving from a retreat in the Netherlands. The weather when we arrived was perfect - sunny with a cool breeze. Once we drove into the city however, it began to rain and was actually quite cool. It was all great according to our students.
This evening we asked the students about their first impressions of Africa and they said that they love seeing all of the people outside walking along the city streets, they can't believe how green and tropical it is and they are surprised by the fact that there are so many tall buildings in downtown Kampala. They have also enjoyed the food (samosas, pizza and lasagna were part of today's menu) and they have already discovered favorite new beverages such as passion fruit juice and Stoney (a fabulous ginger soft drink). All is going beautifully so far - sending love back home to Big D!
