Serviam Day in Dallas

Today, in the spirit of Ursuline, our visiting Chilean delegation focused on Serviam, our Ursuline motto meaning "I will serve." They began the day at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, an agency of Catholic Charities which serves the poor. There, they worked very hard for several hours pricing items, restocking shelves and tagging jewelry. It was hard work but very rewarding!

In the afternoon, we took a short break for lunch at the famous "Babes Chicken House" restaurant. Delicious!!

Then, in the early evening, the students accompanied our SRO (Students Reach Out) club to prepare and serve dinner at the Hillcrest House, a home for people living with HIV. The theme of the dinner was "Breakfast for dinner" which is always popular with the Hillcrest residents. The students had a wonderful time cooking the dinner and serving the residents. They worked very hard and made a lovely meal which was greatly appreciated! Thank you, Chilean sisters for your wonderful spirit of Serviam!

Chile Presentation

Today our Chilean delegation delighted us with a lovely presentation about their country and their school. The presentation was informative and entertaining as the students included short, dramatic videos throughout their presentation. Three of the delegates performed a traditional dance at the end of the presentation which added a wonderful cultural flair to the experience. Thank you, Chilean delegation, for all of your hard work and preparation of this excellent lesson about Chile!

Touring Dallas

Our Chilean guests have enjoyed several excursions around Dallas this week. They visited the 6th Floor Museum (which is dedicated to the life and legacy of President Kennedy),  the Dallas World Aquarium and the Bush Presidential Library. They tell us that they learned a great deal and that they were very impacted by the exhibits of both museums because they were very interactive and compelling.  Of course, seeing the fish and the animals at the aquarium was a special treat. All are having a marvelous adventure in Texas!

Big Eating in Big D

One of our favorite things to do is to introduce our visiting friends to some of the special foods unique to Texas and to Dallas. We have been so happy because our Chilean guests are enthusiastic eaters who are happy to try new foods and flavors. In the last couple of days, they have eaten Tex-Mex at one of Dallas' great historic restaurants, El Fenix downtown. They also visited Snuffer's hamburgers for the only-in-Dallas classic, Cheddar Fries! It has been a week of fantastic big eating in Big D!!
