School Days with our South American Sisters

We have been enjoying a fantastic visit with our sisters from Peru and Chile. As many of you know, we in the USA had a national holiday on Monday in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King. So, we did not have classes at UA on Monday. Yesterday, Tuesday, our guests had much to share with their teachers and each other about the events of the weekend with their host families. It sounds like there was quite a bit of laughter, eating and shopping involved in the long weekend. Yesterday the girls joined classes at UA and today they participated in a special Photography class which included a photo scavenger hunt all over the school.

So much to share after the weekend!

Welcome Peruvian sisters!

And just when we thought we couldn't have any more fun, our sisters arrived from Lima, Peru! We were just in time to celebrate Belen's birthday with her!  Now we have two South American delegations with us at Ursuline Dallas. It's a very happy start to 2014! Bienvenidas hermanas Chilenas y Peruanas y Felicidades Belen !!!

Day two with our Chilean Sisters

Day two with our Chilean sisters has been great! This morning, the Chilean girls introduced themselves on the PA system so we got to learn a bit more about each one. Then, they spent a full day in classes and learning all about life as a student at Ursuline Dallas. Tomorrow, they will attend more classes and will meet our newly arrived Peruvian sisters!

New Year, new friends!

Happy New Year! We are beginning 2014 in a very festive way by welcoming new friends to our school. Today, our first delegation of 2014 arrived from our sister school, Colegio Santa Ursula, in Santiago, Chile. We are already having a great time with our new friends! We asked the students to share their very first impressions of UA and Dallas after only a few hours and they said that they can really see and feel the same Ursuline spirit that lives in their school and they feel very at home despite not knowing their way around (yet!). The students from Chile also love the UA water bottles and USA cookies and brownies! It's been a wonderful day and we look forward to welcoming our sisters from Peru tomorrow!

Global Celebration Day 2013

Today was our annual Global Celebration Day at Ursuline - and what a joyful and busy day it was! Because today is also the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we began the day with Mass, including mariachi music and Matachines (traditional dancers from Mexico). It was a very festive start to a very festive day!

All students attended Mass, a presentation of the film "Girl Rising" and a fantastic performance by our friends from Spirit of Uganda.

Students also attended 2 sessions of choice and sessions included a wide variety of topics from African drumming to Ukrainian Easter Eggs to Skyping with Ursuline alum, Jules McGee, who is in the Peace Corps in Mozambique.

Of course, another highlight was our first-ever Christmas global market where each vendor gives a percentage of profits toward important causes like education for girls in the developing world.

There was so much going on all day and it was all joyful! A million thanks to all who came from near and far to participate in this happy day with us at Ursuline!
